8.3 Filenames

29 September, 2008 (7:10 pm) | Windows

Despite Windows having had long file names since Windows 95, there are still some programs that insist on using the old 8.3 names. The most annoying thing is that there is no way in Windows to get the 8.3 name of a file — at least I haven’t found it. This is where the GSPN (short for Get Short Path Name) utility comes in handy. Download the program. To get the short path name for a file, simply drag it on to the GSPN icon. It is as simple as that.

Download GSPN.
