Online Collaboration with PBwiki
PBwiki is an online collaboration system based on the wiki model. There is no software to download. It works exclusively in your web browser. From there you can quickly create and modify pages. Each page has an “edit” button that takes you to a WYSIWYG editor, where you can make real-time edits to the page.
As you create pages, you can organize them in folders. You can designate folders and pages as public (where everyone can see them) or private (where only certain people have access). Different folders and pages can have different security settings, and different people can have different access levels:
- Readers can view pages, but not edit.
- Writers can view and edit pages.
- Editors can view, edit and delete pages, and also change page and folder settings.
- Administrators always can do anything on pages and folders.
All changes to pages are stored, and it is possible to view earlier revisions. You can even compare revisions to see what changed.
As changes are made to the pages, you will get email notifications. Default is once per hour, but it can be changed. You can also watch the changes via an RSS feed.
PBwiki is really quick and simple to use, yet it is power enough for most needs. It is useful for any type of online collaboration from maintaining your local book club’s website or planning a vacation to a company intranet.
PBwiki is free for personal use up to 10 MB, and it has multiple levels of premium services available. It runs fine in both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
