Save for College with Upromise

5 October, 2008 (5:06 pm) | Web

Upromise helps you save for college. You don’t have to do anything other than signing up for it. You give them your credit card numbers and you start earning college savings on the everyday stuff you buy. The savings automatically get deposited in your 529 college savings account. It really works: Just use your credit cards to buy groceries, gas, or whatever you normally buy, and without even thinking about it, you earn money. The savings are up to 25% — with most being around the 1% mark. The savings are calculated for each item you purchase, and not all items result in a savings. I found that, for example, Exxon-Mobile participate it the program, and since I normally fill up my car at the local Exxon-Mobile gas station, it works out nicely.

You can also sign up for the Citi Upromise World MasterCard and earn even more.

Friends and family members may also contribute to your college savings account. For example, you can save for your kids 529 accounts, and you can even get the grand parents to help out too. Since there is no cost for you, it is like getting free money.
