Swoopo - A Different Auction Site

1 November, 2008 (4:13 pm) | Web

Swoopo is an auction website. eBay, of course, is the giant in the auction arena, so it is nice to see start-ups like Swoopo take them on.

Swoopo has been operating in Europe for three years, and they are now also in the US. They provide fast-paced on-line auctions that “offer the winners incredible deals, and give everyone who bids a thrill along the way.”

Auctions at Swoopo start at $0.15. Each bid raises the price by $0.15. Bids that are placed in the final moments of an auction automatically extend the auction by up to 20 seconds. Swoopo charges a dollar for each bid you place. There are also special types of auctions. For example:

  • 100% Off auction, where the winner doesn’t have to pay the final price. That is right: The item is free, but you do have to pay shipping.
  • NailBiter auction, where no bids from robots are allowed.
  • Penny auction, where each bid only raises the price by one penny.

All-in-all, this creates some exciting auctions.
