Microsoft’s Skydrive Gives You 25 GB of Online Storage for Free
There are a many choices for online storage. However, many of them only give you a gigabyte or two for free. This is where Microsoft’s Skydrive is changing the game: They give you 25 GB of free online storage space with a 50 MB limit of individual files.
You need a Windows Live ID to sign up for the Skydrive. If you use Hotmail or other Microsoft services, you may already have one. Otherwise, it is easy to sign up for a new one. Once you are in, you can upload files to your Skydrive and organize them in folders. If you upload photos, you can view them as slide shows.
You can share your files with other people, or you can keep the files private.
Gladinet is a free program for Windows that allows you to mount your Skydrive as a drive under Windows. The program is still in beta. I had some trouble getting it to work correctly. The basic functionality is there, but when I tried to copy many large files to my Skydrive via Gladinet, it failed. Hopefully they will get these problems resolved soon, because being able to mount your Skydrive is a very useful feature.
